Dear all,
http://ahepa.org/dotnetnuke/News/NewsReleases/tabid/82/EntryId/89/AHEPA-Remembers-36th-Black-Anniversary-of-Invasion-Occupation-of-Cyprus.aspx
Your supreme president is either ignorant of facts and totally out of touch with the plight of the Cypriot refugees for restoration of their violated human rights by the invading force and still occupying half of our country Cyprus i.e. Turkey and their demand to return, or is simply and unashamedly playing stupid politics in an effort to sensationalise inactivity!
His declaration reads:

“…We restate our call for the reunification of Cyprus, and its people, in a bicommunal and bizonal federation with a single sovereignty, single international personality and single citizenship, with its independence and territorial integrity safeguarded, and comprising two politically equal communities as described in the relevant U.N. Security Council resolutions. We contend that such a solution is in the best interest of all Cypriots, and must emanate from Cypriots themselves..”

What right have you got in the comfort of your establishments thousands of miles away to ignore the decision of the people of Cyprus as decided in the referendum of 24th April 2004 rejecting this racist Turkish/British apartheid solution of bizonal bicommunal federation and declare that you are even “contend” with such a solution and that this solution (as the Foreign Office demands) must emanate from the Cypriots themselves?
What is the purpose of asking for the removal of the Turkish invading forces when what you are promoting and asking and are indeed “contend” with, (“best interest of all Cypriots” putting the Turkish interests –of separate bizonal constituent state - on an equal footing with those of the Refugees!) does not differ from what British P.M. David Cameron and Turkish Attila P.M. T. Ertogan have confirmed yesterday in Ankara? That is: the dissolution of the Republic of Cyprus and creating in its place a two state apartheid racist solution: what Turkey wanted long before the staged invasion on 20th July 1974 with British consent as given to B. Ecevit by British PM Harold Wilson on 17th July 1974 in London. The Foreign Office began promoting this solution as from 16 August 1974…
What interests are you really serving by such statements? Surely not those of the Greek Cypriot people and especially the refugees. Ask the Kyrenian Refugee Association “Adouloti Kyrenia” or you do not… associate with them at all? And you go on re-stating your support for this FANTASTIC Turkish solution that:

"We call for these actions in the best interests of the United States. A reunified Cyprus into a bizonal, bicommunal federation will strengthen the eastern Mediterranean and bring peace and security to the region. Furthermore, it will aid Turkey's candidacy to become a member of the European Union.

So your ultimate interests are those of the United States and Turkey’s becoming a member of the European Union and not those of the Greek Cypriots as such. Your Supreme President Nicholas A. Karacostas, a relation to Mr. Philip Christopher the Kyrenian of PSEKA even violated Mr.Christopher’s stance over the issue. On 29 August 1994 Mr. Philip Christopher addressing the annual conference of Overseas Cypriots in Nicosia he said:
“… We have failed due to the fallacies, of the fallacies of the Cyprus Governments of the past 20 years. Unfortunately the fallacies of the past 20 years have presented an image of a bicommunal problem and in all honesty created a vision of an unworkable, unattainable solution. We hear words like Bicommunal, Federation, by-Federation, Confederation and others. We have confused our own organisations and our own people and other human rights activists with unnecessary dialogues, unnecessary guidelines and indexes and recently with Confidence Building Measures. We should return to the problem, back to the basic. Invasion and Occupation. It is a human rights issue and it is one that people can clearly understand and clearly support…”

Furthermore on 14 April 1992, Greek Cypriot daily “Eleftherotypia” published statements made by Turkish lecturer Yialtsin Kutchuk:

“.. If Bizonal Federation  is put into force as described by the Secretary-General of the UN and in particular paragraph 20, which refers to the compulsory and guaranteed clear majority and land ownership in each area, this will lead to outright partition of Cyprus and Turkification of a huge part of the country. I was always against Partition and I repeat my beliefs: if the Ghali Set of Ideas are put into force Cyprus will be led to Partition and Turkification”.  The Ghali Ideas based on this racist Bizonal were rejected by the people. The Annan Plan followed based on the same divisive and racist principle: the Turkish and British demand for a Bizonal Bicommunal Federation. That was also overwhelmingly rejected by the people by a 76% majority of NO vote on 24th April 2004.  Even the International Crisis Group recognised that the people voting NO had in fact rejected the Bizonal Bicommunal Federation. And if the Turkish Cypriot vote is properly analysed and taking away the Settlers’ vote, the result is that even the genuine Turkish Cypriot vote had also rejected that plan and the B.B.F.

All the latest opinion polls in Cyprus have proven that President Christofias’ popularity and policy of adhering to foreign strategies over this issue have reached bottom ground.
Your statement, people of AHEPA,  has disgraced you all.

Erdogan and Cameron agree to solve the Cyprus problem
2010-07-27 23:43:21
Britain and Turkey have expressed their committment to work for a solution in Cyprus based on a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation, according to the Strategic Partnership between the two countries, signed Tuesday.

The Strategic Partnership was signed in Ankara between Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and British Prime Minister David Cameron, who is paying an official visit to the country.

On Cyprus issue, the Partnership says: We commit to working for a Cyprus settlement, based on a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation with political equality, in accordance with the relevant UN Security Council Resolutions and in line with the joint statements of the two leaders in Cyprus during the current round of negotiations.

THIS MESSAGE MAY BE FORWARDED TO ANY SUITABLE RECIPIENT

Dear Compatriots,

AHEPA’s declaration is completely AGAINST the consensus of its own “Cyprus-Hellenic Affairs Committee” assembly (held in Montreal on July 15th 2010), following my presentation on behalf of the Movement for FREEDOM & JUSTICE IN CYPRUS.

The presentation was made published by CANA on July 16th [ http://vimeo.com/13371730 ] and was also attached as official document on AHEPA Committee’s Minutes, together with the document “the Proposal of the correct YES” related to the correct , just, viable and dignified solution to the Cyprus Issue.

The Committee’s reaction and consensus was one of “enthusiastic acceptance of the substance of the presentation and the Proposal”.

AHEPA’s Supreme President Nicholas A. Karacostas had left the meeting room some time before the presentation (coincidence??).  In any case, is NOT the AHEPA President who is supposed to take the decisions but the assembly.  The President and all other Officials are supposed to EXECUTE the assembly’s decisions and conclusions, UNLESS all these so called “AHEPA Annual Conferences etc” are organized just for the fun of it and the nightlife events…

The above JUST for the sake of proper records, as the AHEPA’s Declaration coinciding with the British and Turkish objectives IS NOT A SURPRISE…

REGRETTABLY we are obliged to mention once again our strong belief, that “Hellenism’s biggest enemy is NOT the obvious one”…

We look down on whoever, who maybe is BUT DOES NOT FEEL being Hellenas.  At least we know whom we can NOT trust.

Movement for FREEDOM & JUSTICE IN CYPRUS

Panos Ioannides
President

AHEPA Remembers 36th "Black Anniversary"
of Invasion, Occupation of Cyprus
Supreme President Calls for Removal of Turkish Troops from Cyprus
WASHINGTON - Supreme President Nicholas A. Karacostas issued the following statement on the 36th anniversary of the illegal invasion and subsequent occupation of the Republic of Cyprus that occurred July 20, 1974:
"Today marks a somber day as we observe the 36th anniversary of the illegal invasion and occupation of the Republic of Cyprus by the Republic of Turkey. This was, and remains to this very day, an intolerable act; one that is a gross violation of the rule of law, human rights, and democratic ideals. We pause to remember the innocent civilians who lost their lives and thousands who went missing, including four American citizens whose investigations remain incomplete. The illegal invasion and occupation caused the displacement of nearly 200,000 Greek Cypriot refugees, including my family, who to this day are unable to return to their homes which is also a violation of human rights as determined by the European Commission on Human Rights.
"Today, the ongoing direct talks between Cypriot President Demetris Christofias and new hard-line Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu, under the scope of the high-level UN Agreement of July 8, 2006, has provided minimal tangible progress toward a settlement to reunify Cyprus despite the former's submission of realistic proposals as recent as last week and because of the latter's continued insistence to present proposals outside UN parameters and European Union principles. We restate our call for the reunification of Cyprus, and its people, in a bicommunal and bizonal federation with a single sovereignty, single international personality and single citizenship, with its independence and territorial integrity safeguarded, and comprising two politically equal communities as described in the relevant U.N. Security Council resolutions. We contend that such a solution is in the best interest of all Cypriots, and must emanate from Cypriots themselves.
"However, ultimately the key to a successful settlement rests in Ankara. We call on the U.S. government to convey a strong message to Turkey that it must provide the Turkish Cypriot community with the necessary freedom to negotiate a solution within the July 8 framework, and equally as important, facilitate the removal of 43,000 of its troops from the island.
"Therefore, on this 'black anniversary' we call on Turkey to begin the removal of its 43,000 troops from Cyprus. These are troops that we contend, as American citizens, would serve a better purpose, especially to NATO, in another theatre such as Afghanistan as opposed to Cyprus where there have been 15 million incident-free crossings by Greek and Turkish Cypriots.
"We call for these actions in the best interests of the United States. A reunified Cyprus into a bizonal, bicommunal federation will strengthen the eastern Mediterranean and bring peace and security to the region. Furthermore, it will aid Turkey's candidacy to become a member of the European Union.
"Our hope is that we will no longer need to observe this 'black anniversary,' but instead, celebrate the anniversary of a settlement. AHEPA remains committed to doing all within its power to keep the Cyprus issue in the public eye until a just and viable solution is realized."
